Kayaker Recounts The Moment He Was ‘Swallowed By A Whale’ As Father Captures Shocking Footage

Adrian Simancas was enjoying a kayaking trip with his father when things took a terrifying turn

A kayaker has shared his terrifying experience of being ‘swallowed by a whale,’ while his father stood by, watching in shock and managing to capture the entire incident on video.

Adrian Simancas was paddling in the waters of Bahía El Águila, south of Punta Arenas in Chile, when a massive whale seemingly engulfed him and his kayak in one accidental gulp, according to local news outlet 24Horas.

In an incredible turn of events, not only did Adrian survive the encounter unharmed, but his father, Dell Simancas, remained calm enough to film the heart-stopping moment as he saw his son vanish beneath the waves.

Recalling the horrifying ordeal, Adrian said: “I saw something between blue and white that passed close to my face and it was like on one side and above me.

“I didn’t understand what was happening and then I felt like I was drowning.”

“I thought it had eaten me,” he added.

The father and son were kayaking in the Magallanes region when the massive humpback whale surfaced with its mouth wide open, momentarily taking Adrian in before spitting him back out.

His father, Dell Simancas, acted fast to assist his son, using a rope to pull him back toward the shore while reassuring him to stay calm.

Dell described the scariest moment of the ordeal: “I didn’t see Adrian for three seconds and I got scared. When I turned around I didn’t see anything, I didn’t see Adrian. That was the only real scary moment I had, because I didn’t see him for like three seconds. And suddenly he just shot out.”

The footage captured Adrian paddling through the water when, without warning, the enormous creature surfaced, engulfing him for a brief yet terrifying moment before disappearing again.

Within seconds, Adrian reappeared above the water, clinging tightly to his yellow kayak.

In the video, his father can be heard shouting instructions, urging him to ‘stay calm’ and ‘grab onto the boat’ while the whale briefly resurfaces before vanishing beneath the waves again.

“Calm down, calm down, I’m coming,” Dell calls out to his son as he moves toward him and extends a rope to pull him to safety.

Adrian, still in disbelief, turns to his father and says: “I thought it had swallowed me.”

Despite the terrifying experience, both father and son escaped unharmed. Looking back, they feel incredibly fortunate to have survived what could have been a tragic accident.

The narrator describes: “If you were swallowed by a sperm whale you would be squeezed down its massive throat. You’d continue down its esophagus and into a series of stomach chambers that are filled with digestive acids.”

“These acids would immediately start breaking down your body but even if you managed to avoid the acid, the lack of air inside the whale would quickly cause you to suffocate.”

Considering this grim reality, one Twitter user humorously summed up the situation after watching Adrian’s story: “If I get swallowed by a whale and then spit out, tranquillo is NOT what I’m gonna be.”
