During a significant meeting on February 28 between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump, the primary discussions revolved around issues of war and trade. However, attention soon turned to Zelensky’s casual wardrobe as highlighted on social media.
Brian Glenn, Chief White House Correspondent for Real America’s Voice, inquired about Zelensky’s informal clothing in the presence of Trump’s Cabinet, asking, “Why don’t you wear a suit? Despite holding the highest office in this nation, you choose not to dress formally.” Vice President J.D. Vance chuckled at the remark, but Glenn continued, questioning whether Zelensky even owned a suit. Unfazed, Zelensky responded, “Problems?” to which Glenn affirmed, “Yes, many Americans are concerned about your lack of respect for this office.”
Zelensky retorted, “Once this war concludes, I will wear a suit. I am uncertain, but it may be something better or similar to yours. We shall see. Perhaps something more affordable.”
This exchange followed a light-hearted comment from Trump to the media upon Zelensky’s arrival at the White House, stating, “He’s all dressed up today!” Later, in the Oval Office, Trump expressed his appreciation for Zelensky’s attire, to which Zelensky responded with a simple, “Oh really?”
In the meantime, a video clip showcasing Glenn’s questioning of the two leaders after their meeting went viral on X, amassing nearly 10 million views within a day. The video ignited a debate online, prompting many to come to Zelensky’s defense.
Critics pointed out that Elon Musk is often seen in casual attire. One user on X questioned, “What was Elon Musk’s justification for wearing a t-shirt and a hat to a Cabinet meeting?” Another remarked, “Why wasn’t the same inquiry directed at Elon?
