Whoopi Goldberg mocks Trump and Elon Musk’s Tesla white house event on The View – Her words

On the March 12, 2025, episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg targeted Elon Musk and Donald Trump. She sarcastically called a White House lawn Tesla event an “infomercial.”

Goldberg kicked off Hot Topics by describing Trump’s praise of Tesla as a “fundraiser for the richest man in the world.” A clip showed Trump inside a Tesla, marveling at its features. “I think they’re gonna do great,” he said about its appeal to buyers.

Goldberg compared the event to 1980s California car ads by salesman Cal Worthington, known for catchy jingles. The View aired a 1988 ad with Worthington singing a reworked If You’re Happy and You Know It.

Inspired, Goldberg and the team debuted their own parody:

“If you want to buy a Tesla, call Elon
You can buy one sitting on the White House lawn
The economy might crash, but it’s Elon who needs cash
If you want to buy a Tesla, call Elon.”

Laughter filled the studio. Then, Goldberg got serious. “Why would he think voters want to see him back Musk when the economy’s tanking?” she asked.

Co-Hosts Dive Into Tesla’s Struggles

Sunny Hostin offered financial context. “That was a commercial,” she said. “Since Musk became a shadow president, Tesla’s stock has fallen nearly 48%.” She noted a $700 billion market value loss.

After the event, Tesla’s stock rose—up 7.2% Wednesday and 3.8% Tuesday after a 15.4% Monday crash. Hostin criticized Musk’s reliance on government support. “His empire depends on it,” she said.

Sara Haines tied Tesla’s decline to economic frustration. “People are uncertain, but Musk and Trump won’t feel it,” she said.

Alyssa Farah-Griffin cited a CNN poll. “More Americans now disapprove of Trump’s economic handling than approve,” she revealed. Goldberg’s humor paired with the co-hosts’ analysis made the segment a mix of satire and critique.
