A wild bird in Australia has apparently added a new weapon to his feathered arsenal.

The other day, Reddit user Dono701 was at home in Melbourne when they spotted a bird — identified as a pied currawong — perched on their fence. In the bird’s mouth, inexplicably, was a rubber band.
And as if that weren’t odd enough, things got stranger still.
While Dono701 looked on, the bird began to manipulate the rubber band along the fence’s slats until he got it to hook on. Then, pulling the rubber band back, he managed to “shoot” it (much like a rambunctious school kid).
“Seems like they’re preparing for war,” Dono701 wrote.
A rubber band projectile might not be the most intimidating of weapons outside the classroom, but shooting them can be fun regardless. And this bird evidently agrees.
Currawongs, much like the ravens and crows they resemble, are considered among the brainiest of birds — exploring the world around them with playful curiosity. With those traits at hand, a rubber band can easily be made a toy.
These pied currawongs did the same thing with a bath mat:
Fortunately, this bird’s development of a weaponized rubber band poses virtually no threat. In fact, the world can rest a little easier knowing he’s having a fun time in the process.
