Angel Reese Facing Backlash Over Caitlin Clark Video After New Message
Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese had a strong WNBA rookie season. Finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting behind Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, Reese set numerous records, including the most rebounds ever by a first-year player.
While Clark won Rookie of the Year over Reese by a 66-1 voting tally (via Basketball Reference), the history between these two stars predates their time in the WNBA. Facing off in the 2023 NCAA championship game, Reese’s LSU Tigers defeated Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes by a final score of 102-85.
This contest featured one of the most heavily debated moments in recent college basketball history, as Reese hit Clark with the “you can’t see me” gesture.
The moment went viral, and recently resurfaced following a new message from Reese on X.
“The funniest thing people say to me in person is ‘Wow your so nice in person. It’s crazy the way they portray you online,’ Reese wrote. “I just laugh and say ‘yeah’ lmfaoooo.”
Several fans have replied to this post with Reese’s gesture to Clark in the 2023 title game, including one post on X that tallied over 12 million views.
“‘It’s crazy the way they portray you online,’” the fan wrote, quoting Reese while posting the Clark moment.
Several replies have been pouring in, as Reese is again facing backlash for the gesture, as well as her post on X.
“I haven’t seen this video in forever,” one reply read. “Looks even worse now.”
“I’m crying this is so funny and giving second hand embarrassment,” a fan wrote. “She was following CC all over the floor instead of celebrating to try and get a reaction outta her and CC couldn’t even give her the time of day.”
“I’m just realizing how cringey this looked,” another comment read. “The whole idea of the John Cena is you do one wave in front of your face LMAO.”
“She literally stood up and clapped and cheer when Chennedy Carter shoved her to the floor last year,” read another post with over one million views. “I will never have respect for anyone like that.”
Angel Reese Sends 6-Word Message to Caitlin Clark Teammate.
The inaugural Unrivaled season came to a close on Monday night with a title game between Rose Basketball Club and Vinyl Basketball Club.
Rose BC became the first champions in league history as the team received balanced scoring from its three starters, Brittney Sykes (21), Azura Stevens (19) and Chelsea Gray (18), en route to a 62-54 victory. The game pit two Indiana Fever players against each other as guard Lexie Hull took on Fever star Aliyah Boston.
Superstar guard Caitlin Clark was locked into the game, posting “One of them bouta come back angry and one happy uh oh,” on an Instagram post the Fever made earlier during the day on Monday.
In another post from the team, Clark commented “@aliyah.boston you didn’t deserve this. I’m sorry,” following her loss.
Boston later offered a message to Hull, who won $50,000 as a result of the game. “@lexiehull dinner on you maybe ? 🥹”, she asked.
On Tuesday night, Hull took to social media to share photos from the celebration.
In the comments section she received a message from Rose BC teammate Angel Reese following the game. “set that mf off BIG LEXIE,” Reese said in her message following the big win.

Notre Dame star Hannah Hidalgo joins lists with Fever’s Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell
It’s no secret that Notre Dame women’s basketball has one of the best players in women’s college basketball, and budding March Madness star.
But ESPN helped put into context how great Hannah Hidalgo is as her second season continued with the Irish’s 76-55 win over Michigan. Hidalgo scored 21 points (8 of 14) with three assists, two steals, one rebound and a block in 36 minutes.
She joined an exclusive list with Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark as the only players in the last 25 seasons with at least 1,500 points and 300 assists in their first two seasons. The tale of the tape:
Then Hidalgo appeared on another graphic with Clark, her Fever teammate Kelsey Mitchell and USC star JuJu Watkins. They are the four players with the most games scoring at least 20 points since 1999-2000.
Hidalgo and Watkins each have another year of college basketball before they are eligible to declare for the WNBA draft. The Fever likely won’t be in position to draft either barring a trade, especially after an offseason which included Mitchell’s return and several win-now acquisitions, such as Sophie Cunningham, DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard and others.
